Eight Dollar Mountain, a bluegrass group hailing from Southern Oregon, is promoting a Kickstarter campaign to partially fund their upcoming studio release produced by Leftover Salmon’s Vince Herman. Known for fast-driving rhythms and harmonies, the band is looking to capture more of their traditional and newgrass blends in their third album.
Recording at The Studio at Pacifica, Steve Miller’s studio in Williams, Oregon, the album charges to make use of the “unique combination of modern and vintage equipment” available at the studio to capture the tones of bluegrass instrumentation. Grammy winning engineer Dennis Dragon will perform recording duties.
About Vince Herman’s production of the album, the Kickstarter page notes that “bringing in a genre-busting veteran like Vince is a significant step in ratcheting this album up a notch… in terms of the musical expression.”
As part of the campaign, Eight Dollar Mountain hooked up with their new friends to film a sure-to-be Oscar nominated short film promoting the campaign. The film recently enjoyed an eight-minute standing ovation at the Sundance Film Festival.
Eight Dollar Mountain has already released 2010’s Wild River Country and 2012’s Riverboat Gambler, along with an EP. Also in 2012, the band earned finalist honors at the NW String Summit Band Competition.
